Tea, gratitude and brides - Announcing Shine November Lineup

Thanksgiving month is upon us and so is a new Passion Co. class graduation. To celebrate both, we are hosting Shine on Wednesday November 12th, at a beautiful, spacious and contemporary Art gallery in South of Market, Alter Space

We are excited to announce our speaker lineup which includes:

Ankit Shah, founder of Tea with Strangers, a community connecting people in the offline world. Ankit recently delivered a phenomenal TEDx Talk in London, and today his organization is in over 10 cities.

Christy Baird, who graduated from our program will be talking about the successful launch of her bridal fashion brand LOHO Bride. Recently featured in Refinery 29.

The evening is designed around the different ways we experience gratitude. Passion Co. co-founder Peter Rubin will lead us with an opening talk and exercises.

Passion Projects of October class include a vegan blog by Meredith Williams, an interactive project on female desire by Anabel Lippincott, a blog on fitness by Nate Burgnara, a documentary trailer on cancer survival by Selena Martinez, a new movement #kissthisworld by Asya Tabdili and many other creative projects.

We are thrilled to be partnering with Peerspace, an app to find and book creative spaces around the city. Bay Area acclaimed DJ Citizen Zain will play happy tunes starting 730 PM. As always, we invite you to dress to impress, and be ready for the lenses of our photographer Christopher Howard.

Shine - A Passion Celebration (September Edition)

Shine - A Passion Celebration (September Edition)

What is your legacy? Mozart's was his music, Picasso’s was his art and for our Shine event this September we encouraged our Passion Co. community to shape it and begin living it fully.

Inspired by Burning Man and officiated by Anisha Desai), who launched her ceremony business, the event was truly a huge success and challenged everyone present to identify one thing holding them back from their legacy, what they need to do to move one step closer to it and finally to take a marigold blossom – a symbol of passion, creativity and possibility – and make a commitment to their legacy.

The main focus, of course, was our latest group of 15 inspiring individuals, who took to the stage at non-profit community-based arts organization Galería de La Raza to showcase their Passion Projects after completing our 5 week program.

Divya Silbermann launched ‘Brave Stories,’ a website to share personal stories of overcoming loss.

Devastated by the sudden death of her fiancé from meningitis in 2002 after moving to the US from India, she believes that despite the huge number of social networking sites, it's still very difficult to find genuine stories of hardship and grief.

She said:

My goal is to inspire someone who might be going through something similar. No one is going to give you magical advice that will make you feel better instantly, but you’re not alone.

Sierra Campbell debuted her non-toxic collection of beautifully designed yoga mats, Ventana Yoga.

After working on the line for 10 months, she decided to sign up for the program as she “needed an extra push.”

She said:

Launching my own company, I felt really isolated and I needed a community. Most of my friends after month 5 or 6, when I would say I’m launching this and I would want support from them, their response would be, you haven’t launched it yet or they would focus on problems. The Passion Co. focused on excitement, solutions and solving things together.

Asked about the most difficult challenge she faced, she said:

Keeping enthusiasm and finding a responsible manufacturer.

Attendees tucked into the delicious Hummus bar provided by Yamba Hummus and sipped on honey wine by Bee D'Vine.

Amanda Shareghi read a hilarious excerpt from a feature about her love life that she plans to submit to the New York Times’ Modern Love column, while DJ and yoga enthusiast Elliott Adams unveiled Mixflow.co, where he shares unique electronic beats designed to blend tempo with movement.

Noelia Ruiz-Angel grew up playing the violin, but life got in the way until recently.

At the beginning of the program she made a commitment to start practicing again every day and wowed guests with her incredible performance at the event.

Sanjana Reddy and Vaishnavi Bodanapu created illustrations for a family cookbook and Aline Rudenisch showed off her unique hand-made fashion items.

Yoga DJ, illustrated cookbook, comics, fashion & more - Revealing Shine Lineup

Organizing Shine never gets old. With every Passion Co. class graduating, we get giddy about seeing our program participants shining and revealing proudly their labor of love to the world.

For our September 17th Shine we scouted a new location, in one of our favorite neighborhoods, The Mission. Galería de La Raza founded in 1970, is a non-profit community-based arts organization whose mission is to foster public awareness and appreciation of Chicano/Latino art and serve as a laboratory where artists can both explore contemporary issues in art, culture and civic society, and advance intercultural dialogue.

Our theme for this month, LEGACY was inspired by my Burning Man experience, where I spent time in the temple reflecting on what I want to be remembered for and wether I was on the right track towards my desire. At Shine, you will be engaged through art, creativity and group exercises to think through this important question yourself too.

We are partnering with Peerspace, a marketplace for creative spaces, Yamba Hummus who will be providing a delicious Hummus bar and Bee D'Vine, who will cater a honey wine bar for the evening. Kate Kittredge founder of Pétale SF, and one of our Passion muses, curated and designed our flowers.

Our Lineup

Wednesday September 17th

6:00- 7:00 PM: Chill-out lounge music by DJ by JJ O'Brien (also a Bachelorette finalist and founder of Hem Haus)
